Tim Burton’s ‘Dumbo’ Tops This Week’s New Movie Releases
(NEW YORK) — Opening nationwide in theaters Friday:
* Dumbo – Director Tim Burton’s live-action reboot of Disney’s 1941 animated classic stars Danny DeVito as the owner of a failing circus who enlists his star performer — played by Colin Farrell — to care for the titular character, a newborn elephant with particularly big ears. After learning Dumbo can fly, a ruthless entrepreneur, portrayed by Michael Keaton, acquires a circus to exploit the pachyderm. Alan Arkin also stars. Rated PG. Disney is the parent company of ABC News.
* Unplanned — This faith-based film is based on the memoir of Planned Parenthood employee Abby Johnson, a former advocate for women’s reproductive rights until a life-changing experience convinced her to become a pro-life activist. Ashley Bratcher stars. Rated R.
Opening in limited release on Friday:
* The Beach Bum — Matthew McConaughey plays a rebellious stoner who insists on living life by his own rules. Also starring Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffett, Martin Lawrence and Jonah Hill. Rated R.
* Diane — Mary Kay Place stars a woman whose generosity and self-sacrifice actually hide an internal struggle to escape a past she can’t forget. Andrea Martin and Joyce Van Patten co-star. Unrated.
