Some restaurants are starting to donate meals to healthcare workers or donate foods to healthcare facilities, according to Eater. “It was a privilege to be able to offer some form of comfort to those who have been working literally nonstop to help keep this pandemic at bay,” said one restaurant owner. Making food for healthcare workers also allows the eateries to keep staff, order from suppliers and work with community partners and the public.

“We get immediate feedback when we drop the meals off at the hospitals,” said another owner. “It reminds us how essential service and hospitality are to everyone and the way it can brighten someone’s day.” This phenomenon is happening worldwide; in Poland, one pizzeria even inscribes cardboard delivery boxes with messages like, “You are our heroes.”
