43rd Traffic Death in Portland in 2019
Portland, Or. – A 41 year old man has become Portland’s 43rd traffic fatality of the year. Edward Woods was killed Saturday on NE Halsey when his fast moving motorcycle slid into a pick up. There were 34 traffic deaths in 2018, which showed a drop in fatalities.
The Portland City Council adopted its Vision Zero goal of no traffic fatalities in 2015. The Portland Bureau of Transportation’s Vision Zero web page says almost half of traffic deaths are caused by speed and more than half are caused by impaired drivers.
