It’s sweet, sweet, sweet victory for SpongeBob SquarePants fans: The voice of Squidward will apparently introduce Maroon 5‘s Super Bowl halftime performance.

In a Facebook post that’s been screen-grabbed and posted to Twitter, voice actor Rodger Bumpass, who plays Squidward, Spongebob’s constantly annoyed neighbor, wrote “To all Spongebob fans!!! Tune into the Super Bowl because Squidward gets to introduce the halftime entertainment!!!!”

As for how we got to the point where a character from a children’s cartoon is even involved with Maroon 5’s set, it started when someone started a petition for the halftime show to feature a performance of “Sweet Victory,” a song performed in the SpongeBob episode “Band Geeks.”

In the episode, Squidward attempts to lead the residents of Bikini Bottom in a marching band in order to impress his mean and successful rival, Squilliam. Rehearsals turn out to be a disaster, but when it comes time to play at a sporting event called the Bubble Bowl, SpongeBob and the gang surprisingly pull off an epic performance of an ’80s-style hair metal power ballad called “Sweet Victory.”

The episode is one of the most beloved by SpongeBob fans, and features several of the show’s most famous quotes, including when the starfish, Patrick, asks “Is mayonnaise an instrument?” So if anyone is tapping a container of mayo during Maroon 5’s performance, you know why.

The petition, which has accumulated over one million signatures on Change.org as of Thursday afternoon, was launched to pay tribute to SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg, who died in November at age 57 following a battle with ALS.

Maroon 5’s Super Bowl halftime performance will also feature rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi. The game airs this Sunday, February 3 at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
