Since There Are No Sports, ESPN Will Play Disney Sports Movies on Friday Nights
While many TV and streaming services may be seeing more viewers than usual because of all the people stuck at home waiting out the coronavirus, ESPN is probably not one of them, as most of their fare is now on hiatus as well. The world’s top sports network is now trying to figure out how to feed their sports-starved audience without relying solely on replays of old games and virus updates. The channel will now tap into the vault of their parent company Disney, to pluck some sports movies for Friday night programming, beginning on March 27.
For the premiere broadcast, the network will show the Dennis Quaid baseball movie The Rookie at 8 p.m. ET. On Friday, April 3, at 8:30 p.m. ET, they will show the hoops-themed Glory Road, followed in subsequent weeks by Miracle, Invincible, Secretariat, and The Greatest Game Ever Played.
