COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – A 34-year-old Cottage Grove man has been identified as the person deputies say came at them with a knife before they shot and killed him Saturday.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office identified the man Monday as Larry Leonard Lowry Jr.

The sheriff’s office says it received a report of a dispute Friday night between a male and a female but that deputies were unable to locate them.

Deputies responding again after calls around 1 a.m. Saturday found the female and learned that the male was in an outbuilding.

The sheriff’s office says deputies called on a loudspeaker for him to come out and that he approached deputies with a large knife.

The sheriff’s office says deputies shot him and performed CPR until medics arrived. They pronounced him dead.

The shooting is under investigation by a team of law enforcement officers from several agencies.
