Portland Timbers Introduce New GM

PORTLAND, Ore. – The new General Manager of the Portland Timbers, Ned Grabavoy met with the media Thursday.

The former player turned club technical director says he didn’t always envision himself in this role, “No, not necessarily…I had a long enough runway to reflect on what I wanted to do with that next step. But you never really know what you want to do.”

He replaces Gavin Wilkinson, who was fired in October amidst investigations into how the club handled allegations of misconduct.

So Grabavoy says he knows the club needs to regain fan’s trust, “Absolutely. And I think it won’t just be myself. I think there’s some other new leadership within the club that’s exciting…and I think it’s on us to try to move the club in a direction that we see is positive.”

He also knows the team must improve on the pitch, “The biggest need for our group is to find another option at forward”.

But he also admits the roster is in pretty good shape, “I don’t think we should discredit this group.”

The Timbers kick off the pre-season with a friendly in Phoenix against Kansas City.
