Olivia Rodrigo says “Drivers License” 'SNL' skit was “a dream come true”

Stefan KohliOlivia Rodrigo has just released her new single “deja vu,” but her debut smash “Drivers License” is still going strong.  Not only was it number one for weeks, but it inspired an entire skit on Saturday Night Live, which she now calls “a dream come true that I didn’t even know I had.”

Speaking to Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe Thursday to promote the release of “deja vu,” Olivia said of the sketch, “It was so incredible. I am a huge SNL fan. Obviously I think everyone at SNL is so iconic and such an important part of our culture.”

In the skit, all the male cast members, and guest host Regé-Jean Page, argue over the meaning of the song in a bar, before linking arms and belting it out together.

“They actually didn’t tell us before it aired. But I have a friend who has a friend who works on it, and the friend was like, ‘Oh I think I’m going to do something with Driver’s License.’ And they might cut it, but I think they might,’” Olivia tells Zane. “And so I was like, ‘Oh cool, I’ll watch.’”

The singer says she was expecting maybe one person to mention the song, but was blown away.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, they literally played the entire song on SNL,’” she says. “And all of the SNL cast members that I’ve grown up watching were singing my lyrics. And it was so fantastic.”

“I think it’s just such an honor to be parodied on SNL, and especially in such a complimentary way,” she adds. “It was just really incredible. That was a dream come true that I didn’t even know I had.”
