New Trial For Man In Wife’s Death Ends In Conviction
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A jury has found a man guilty of murder in the fatal shooting of his wife at their Keizer home in January 2011.
The Statesman Journal reports a jury found 48-year-old Peter Zielinski guilty Thursday in Marion County Circuit Court just hours after the trial wrapped up.
Zielinski pleaded guilty in 2013 to killing 38-year-old Lisa Zielinski. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
Four years later, the Oregon Court of Appeals overturned his conviction and sent the case back to court, ruling the trial court erred in excluding expert testimony of Zielinski’s anxiety disorder diagnosis.
Defense attorney Aaron Jeffers argued Zielinski entered a state of desperation at the time and was unable to control his emotions and actions.
Jurors found determined Zielinksi was not acting under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance at the time.
