SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A man who was convicted of killing a 10-month-old boy he was babysitting has been sentenced to 28 years in prison.

The Spokesman Review reports that 31-year-old Joshua J. Mobley sentenced Friday for the 2017 beating death of Caiden Henry.

Speaking to a packed courtroom that included U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., who sat with the family of Caiden, Judge Julie McKay sentenced Mobley to the high range of the sentencing guidelines.

Mobley, who indicated he plans to appeal his second-degree murder conviction, chose not to give a statement.

According to court records and testimony at trial, Deputy Spokane County prosecutors Stefanie Collins and Shane Smith told jurors that Mobley had been caring for Caiden for 10 hours before he was found dead by his mother on Feb. 27, 2017.
