OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee has released a list of twelve applicants to replace state Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Fairhurst after she announced her planned January retirement.

State legal officials say there are plans to interview each applicant in the coming weeks and provide the governor with recommendations before Inslee announces his final decision the first week of December.

Officials say the appointed person would serve the rest of Fairhurst’s term through the end of 2020 and must run to maintain the seat next November.
