PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – BridgePort Brewery, one of Oregon’s oldest craft breweries and a pioneer in the craft beer industry, will stop making its beers immediately and close its brew pub next month.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, the Portland institution says sales have been sagging for several years.

The brewery restructured its operations in 2017 but a continued drop in sales and distribution is forcing BridgePort to close for good.

The brewery says the hyper-competitive craft brewery industry in the Pacific Northwest in to blame.

BridgePort was incorporated as a craft brewery in 1984.

Oregon legislation passed in 1985 that allowed breweries to sell their beer in the same place they brewed it sparked a craft beer explosion.

BridgePort is the latest in a string of Portland-area breweries to shut down.
