Beaverton, Ore.–  Beaverton Friends of Music followers showed up at School District Offices to turn in some 5,000 petition signatures asking the district to keep middles school music programs from being cut.  Superintendent Don Grotting graciously accepted the petitions.   While that might not happen this year, Parents intend to put up a fight saying daily music is beneficial to the students.  when school let out for Summer is when Parents began learning music programs at 3 of the district’s middle schools would be cut in half this coming school year.

Current policies allow individual middle school principals to decide how often music is offered at their schools.  It’s not the first time that entire  band or choir programs have been suddenly cut in half. After today the parent group hopes to stay on top of communication with the district about the music program.
