The pioneering actress for African-Americans has died Friday from cancer at her home in Los Angeles.  Diahann had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997.

You know her from NBC’s “Julia” which was her break into Hollywood. She went on to have big roles in classic shows like “Dynasty,”  and its spinoff, “The Colbys” and “A Different World.” She also appeared on “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2006.

Diahann is survived by her daughter and 2 grandchildren. She was 84.
