A Shooting Was Prevented In Downtown Portland
A security guard likely stopped a shooting in the entertainment district of downtown Portland. Police were flagged down by a security guard at Northwest 3rd and Couch on Saturday morning, who reported seeing a man pull out a semi-automatic handgun, chamber a round and put it back in his pocket. Sergeant Kevin Allen with Portland Police said officers were in the area as part of their weekend detail around the nightclubs and venues in the area just before 2am.
23 year-old Jesse Townsend of Beaverton was arrested for disorderly conduct. Officers found the loaded handgun plus a second one in a satchel around his neck. His motive for having the guns is still not known.
The investigation is on going.
