Fire ripped through and destroyed an abandoned wooden warehouse in Southeast Portland this morning. Firefighters expect the flames to continue burning throughout the day.
Rob Garrison with Portland Fire and Rescue says they had to call out extra crews.
Part of the building at S.E. 9th Avenue and Alder has collapsed. The building dates back to 1906. A photographer with our news partner KGW says the building’s large basement took in a lot of burning debris during the collapse, including a stop sign and part of the sidewalk.
Several blocks in the area are closed.
There is no word yet on what started the fire. The first call cam in around 12:30 A.M.
